Job title: Carpentry Apprentice

You will use a range of hand tools and industrial woodworking machinery and will also fully-finish some products with materials like paints, wood coatings, glazing and sealants.

Carpentry can be both varied and creative, wood is a natural product and as such should be cherished, but this does bring both benefits and challenges and a good carpenter accepts this and ensure the end product does justice to the client's requirements and also to the natural characteristics of the raw material.

This role will involve the use of traditional hand-skills such as measuring, marking, cutting, shaping, fitting and finishing. You will commence with hand tools but following training will use a wide range of power tools which you will be responsible for their safe use, daily clearing routines and where appropriate their safe storage.

Typical work will involve Installing or repairing doors and window frames, floor joist coverings, partitions, wall and floor units and fitments, cladding and staircase components. Erecting inclined roofs and gables, joists, roof coverings and other roof components.

Housekeeping and on the job cleanliness are essential to ensure that high standards and the good reputation of the company is maintained.

Additional information: The current National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is £3.70 per hour. This applies to 16-18-year-old apprentices and those aged over 18 in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training.
